Diesel Truck Repair: 5 Common Problems You Might Face

As a diesel truck repair specialty company, Red Rover Service works with diesel trucks on a daily basis. Seeing so many trucks come into our shop, there are some problems that we see quite often. Today we’re going to take a look at five of these commonly occurring problems in diesel trucks.

Diesel Truck Repair: 5 Common Problems You Might Face

1. Radiator Malfunctions

The radiator on your truck is the central hub of your truck’s cooling system and it works overtime on a regular basis to keep your engine running smoothly. There are a few things that can go wrong with your radiator and cause your truck to overheat and lead to serious problems.

Common causes of radiator problems include:

  • A bad radiator cap
  • A broken radiator hose
  • A radiator leak

2. Fuel Contamination

Diesel is thicker than gasoline and this increased viscosity means that it is more easily contaminated. Some of the most common contaminants in a diesel truck include:

  • Soot
  • Water
  • Dilution
  • Glycol

3. Broken Clutch Cable

Over time the clutch cable can become eroded and when that happens, you are going to know it. Your gears will start to slip and you are going to have trouble shifting gears. When your clutch cable erodes completely and breaks you are in even bigger trouble, so as soon as you notice the first sign of a problem, get your truck in to see a mechanic ASAP!

4. Worn Treads

It’s a no-brainer that when you travel as much as the average trucker, the treads on your tires are going to wear down quickly. That’s why it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the depth of your tread and the overall health of your tires. We can’t count the number of tire problems we have responded to in the past! We don’t mind responding to those calls, but we’d much rather you didn’t have to call us in the first place, it’s much safer!

5. Defective Glow Plug

When the glow plug goes bad in your diesel truck, you aren’t going to be able to get that truck to start. That’s when you have to call out for roadside assistance. Here at Red Rover, our mechanics will be out to you in a flash.

Avoiding Common Diesel Truck Problems

One of the best ways to avoid these common diesel truck problems is to make sure that you have a reliable mechanic on board. With a reliable mechanic, you will always have someone on your team to keep an eye on the overall health of your truck. We know that this is a job that you take seriously and one that you always do yourself, but it’s always a good idea to have a second pair of eyes looking out for the health of your vehicle!

At Red Rover, we don’t just help you to stay on top of your truck’s regular inspections and periodic problems, we help you to maintain the health of your truck so that you don’t run into those periodic problems quite so often! We keep track of your due dates for regular maintenance and during the inspection of your vehicle, we will take note of anything that looks like it may cause you some trouble in the near future. We’ll then let you know what’s going on so that you can decide how you want to handle the problem.

In our shop, it’s all about building a relationship with you so that you know that when you need to call on a mechanic for help, you can rely on us. We know that you and your vehicle are the lifeblood of our business, and we always want to offer you the very best of service.
